Closely monitor the training Quality!!
NSTC staff decided to take turns to write an article for the website from this year, and I am the first person writing the article after COO’s greeting in the beginning of the year. I am Hiroko, working for Quality Management Section.
Quality Management Section is a division that control, maintain and enhance the training quality of NSTC. As a part of my job, I supported the audit by OPITO last month. OPITO send an auditor annually to check if our training comply with OPITO standard.
The auditor carried detailed check list and monitored each items as closely as possible in two days. We received an endorsement of continued approval of OPITO training, and we heaved a sigh of relief.
But that’s not all. We NSTC won’t just be relieved. All staff worked on to find what else we could do for the customer satisfaction during end of the year, as we did not have scheduled training, such as reviewing the courseware.
We also have had an audit for STCW Basic Safety Training Course approved by Class NK (Nippon Kaiji Kyokai), that is the training based on 2010 Manila Amendment of STCW Convention having just been enforced completely from the beginning of this year.
STCW Basic Safety Training Course has been approved by Class NK since 2013, as the training comply with the IMO Model Course. The training has been also approved by Office of the Maritime Administrator of Republic of the Marshall Islands, and we now have double approval from Marshall and Class NK in delivery of the training also in English language.
Class NK conducted renewal audit on the training, and we have received the outcome of the audit as “continued approval”, we’re sure that the delegates would join STCW training in safe and high quality environment comfortably.
We are looking forward to having many of delegates this year, and I will give my word that I will be a watchdog on the lookout for the training quality as a member of Quality Management Section.
