Thinking about manual handling in the wind industry.
Manual handling injuries were the second-highest incidents to be reported in the wind industry, according to the G+ 2021 Incident Data Report. The data is from G+ member companies only and reflects a percentage of the actual incidents world-wide.
There were 74 manual handling incidents reported, increasing manual handing incidents by 23% over the 2020 (60) reported cases.
Manual handling incidents were the top first aid injuries to be reported, an increase by 54% over the year before!
The good news is that there was only one “high potential” manual handing incident, but all of the other incidents may lead to lost time for you and the employer. These first aid incidents can cause unnecessary pain and suffering, place added workload on coworkers, may seriously delay jobs, etc.
The higher than usual numbers may be attributed to a positive trend in reporting incidents and a higher total hour worked in the growing renewable industry.
Due to the high number of incidents, we find that the manual handling module of the GWO training course is vital for the safe work culture of everyone and we strive to teach proper manual handling techniques and culture during all aspects of our training.
Come and join NSTC’s GWO training where we can build a stronger safety culture together.
Sometimes, the easiest training has the highest impact on our lives!
